From our very first phone conversation, I’ll share tips on raising a healthy, low-maintenance Bulldog. It is my goal to equip you with the knowledge and “tools'' you need to enjoy your fur baby to the fullest, and to keep them safe and happy.
As Bulldog breeders and pet lovers in general, we have a vested interest in the health and longevity of our fur-babies. Good nutrition is the best way to maintain good health, and over the years we have developed a system that works great for our adult Bulldogs and puppies as well. We are happy to share this with you. Our puppies eat a kibble/raw combo of 1 part (KIBBLE) AND 1 PART RAW DIET.
Currently, we are feeding our adult Bulldogs a 50% kibble 50% raw diet as well. They are doing exceptional on it!
Through experiment and research, we have found this to be the best nutritional system for our Bulldogs. Our adult Bulldogs are eating what we feel to be one of the best high quality kibbles available in pawTree, and they are thriving on it. Our adult dog foods are not available in retail stores. They are organic and contain no preservatives, fillers, corn, or gluten. All ingredients are grown and produced in the USA, and the first ingredient is always real meat. This kibble has an 83% digestibility rating which means 83% of the food eaten is utilized nutritionally in the body and only 17% comes out as waste. This is a leader in the market. Since the kibble is very nutrient dense, you will feed less of it. The brand we use and recommend is pawTree. We are currently feeding 1/2 Salmon & Sweet Potato with 1/2 Turkey & Brown Rice (we mix the 2 together) Here's a Link: https://shop.pawtree.com/iambulldog/products/983 If you go with cheap dog food, it will cost you in the long run.
As a treat, we also give our dogs vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, as well as food toppers that change up the flavor of their food.

NO CORN / NO WHEAT / NO GLUTEN
CORN is not digestible. It is a “filler” and only produces more POOP in your yard. Corn allergies are not easily detected. Why waste money on something that is not good for your pet?
WHEAT turns to YEAST on the dog’s skin. Yeast feeds the demodectic mites that can live on canines & felines. If you take wheat OUT of the diet, you decrease the chances of skin issues, such as demodex and other allergies to food fillers.
GLUTEN is a sticky protein that clogs up the digestive system and adds to potential allergies.
SOY is not the worst enemy, but it does make “eye boogers” and ears smell worse than they need to. Soy also causes a protein build-up in the body that sometimes makes for undesirable results.
WHEN CHANGING FROM ONE DOG FOOD TO ANOTHER:
If you plan to CHANGE your dog’s food, remember to make this adjustment carefully, to reduce the risk of diarrhea (upset stomach).
While it is tempting to give your dog treats and spoil them with goodies, you are only hurting them in the long run. Extra weight on your dog’s bones will only speed up the aging process by increasing arthritis tendencies, encouraging laziness, and possibly triggering heart disease. Remember snacks are a "treat" not a meal!
The supplement company that we use has a large line of holistic products that we have found really work. Wellness products are too many to list, but include holistic remedies for anxiety, allergies, pain, brain health, skin health, heart health, joint health as well as grooming supplies and much more. You and your babies will LOVE the products. Just like us, our dogs deserve the best for a quality long-lasting life. We always prefer utilizing holistic approaches to minor issues, and we now have products to recommend to our customers when there is an issue. These products help them avoid vet bills and the usage of traditional medications that can sometimes have long term side effects. They are so confident that you will see the pawTree difference that they offer a 100% money back guarantee on all products for 90 days!
Following are some supplements we use that help prevent issues from occurring:
Salmon Oil - a very important supplement that helps maintain brain, heart, skin, and coat health. Many times people think their dog has an allergy due to itching/scratching when it is just unhealthy skin: https://pawtree.com/iambulldog/product/2024
Gastro Pro Plus- contains prebiotics, probiotics, and soothing herbs. The majority of a dog's immunity comes from good gut health: https://pawtree.com/iambulldog/product/2292
Joint Support Plus - to keep their joints healthy as they grow and mature and prevent mobility issues from developing: https://pawtree.com/iambulldog/product/GMJSP_D
CBD Mega- promotes overall vitality (Age 12 weeks or older). Veterinarian-developed supplement, formulated with organic Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract from the stalks, stems, leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. This pure extract is minimally processed, nutritionally dense and naturally low in THC (less than 0.3%), so your pets get all the benefits of CBD and other natural cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes, which are known to have a therapeutic benefit, or “Entourage Effect”, without the psychoactive effects of THC (your pets won’t get “high”): https://pawtree.com/iambulldog/product/2489
As a treat, we give our dogs vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants via pawTree’s PawPairings which are food toppers that change up the flavor of their food: https://shop.pawtree.com/iambulldog/products/966
If you would like to provide the best nutrition possible to your babies, utilize the Pet Profile (it's free) found here: www.pawTree.com/iambulldog You will find it in the menu bar and it will help you determine the best kibble and/or supplements for your individual dog (or cat). These are customized to suit your pets individual needs according to their age, size, breed and health issues.
The first thing to recognize is your Bulldog Baby is looking for reassurance. Everything looks, smells, sounds and appears very different, and lots of cuddling will help him feel more comfortable in his new surroundings. Gently pet him and tell him it's going to be okay, he's in a warm, loving family. Win his trust by lots of handling and petting and cuddling. It's your job to make this experience pleasant from the start. Dogs are den creatures by nature, so having a crate to retreat and sleep in is a good idea as well. As exciting as this event is for you and your family to bring this little bundle of joy home and as cute and outgoing as your puppy is, remember – it is stressful on the little guy to be ripped from their home, mother and siblings. Then, thrown into an environment where everything is so different. That is why I prepare special care packages for his first week.
You can let the puppy sleep with you.
Allowing a puppy to sleep with you or your kids is completely up to you, but the first few nights of your new puppy howling and yelping for long periods of time is not our idea of a great night for you or your baby. So those first few nights, let the little guy sleep with you. Your family will thank you in the end. This makes for EXCELLENT BONDING TIME and gives your puppy complete security in his new environment. We suggest that you use a waterproof mattress cover (very cheap). Then top that with a cloth mattress cover or thin blanket so you’re not too warm against the waterproof material and dress the bed, as usual. Put a towel under the puppy to catch any shedding during the night. If your pup wakes during the night, take them out for a potty break and curl right back up in the bed with them. Lights OUT – no night light needed if he’s safe with you. Give the puppy a chance to feel secure in their new home and become familiar with all sights and sounds before you close that crate door for the night. Snuggle puppies with a heart beat is another option to try. When you DO begin overnight crate training, do so gradually to reduce the puppy’s stress levels.
